When it rains…
Sep 20th, 2005 by Sandra
Hey, nobody said my blog layout sucks under Internet Explorer!
I run everything under Mozilla Firefox, so my blog layout looks fabulous, but for whatever reason today I was poking around IE and sure enough, the layout looks like a total hack. What’s up with that?
I’m going to have to take the time to do browser detection and use a different layout scheme for IE users. What a drag. Given the grousing I’ve seen on the web about it, it’d be easier for MickeySoft to just fix IE than for countless thousands of designers and site owners to tweak their code just to work around an IE bug.
On top of that, I’m having trouble with the hardware that hooks our internal network to my wireless ISP. After tinkering around with it for an hour (must have weather updates), I’ve discovered my network bridge is probably hosed.
And on top of that, the hurricane that looked headed for Corpus briefly this morning now looks like it might come for us anyway. So I’m packing in the on-line stuff and getting back to securing the boat.
Now if I can just convince him that we need to be in a bigger slip rather than a smaller one. Sounds like a no-brainer to me, but he can occasionally get very bizarre ideas….

Your site looks great in Safari for Mac. :)
Sweet! I knew Safari would probably behave, just like Firefox and Opera behave.
I heard the vicious rumor that IE 7 beta is out and has some CSS fixes, so I hope that does the trick. Except…then I have to wait for everyone to catch up their browser updates!
I run IE and your site doesn’t look like a hack! Whatcha talkin’ bout Willis?
On a separate note, I heard on the news this morning that Rita is predicted to become Cat. 4 today. You take care of you and your SO now, you hear??? {{{SANDRA}}}
I do have a stupid question though: since you’re on a boat, why couldn’t you just, um, sail AWAY from the storm to like, I dunno…North Carolina? (Revealing my ignorance of boating/geography/weather patterns here.)
Thanks, Karmela. Maybe it’s just my version of IE.
Once a hurricane enters the Gulf of Mexico, that’s it. There’s no leaving Texas because there’s literally nowhere to go. Out in the Pacific or Atlantic, it’s different. There, it’s like dodging a bulldozer in a mall parking lot.
But here, when it’s in the Gulf, you’re screwed.
Gotta go. We’re under mandatory evacuation today. I should be able to check back in later tonight or tomorrow.
Sandra, I’m thinking and praying for you and your SO! I hope your boat remains safe.
