A pretty annoying column

Did you see the Dear Abby column yesterday?
I was okay with her response to the mother who was concerned that her teenaged daughter was reading romance until she got to this gem of wisdom:
Some might argue that the idealized depiction of romance, and women being “rescued” by powerful, wealthy men, is more worrisome than the sex and eroticism. However, if you are raising your daughter to respect feminist principles, I don’t think you have anything to worry about.
Hello?
I’m okay with people not liking romance. But I do wish they’d actually read some before bashing it wholesale.
An attempt at satire came out some time ago, written by a man who purported to know what romance writers ought to be doing: stop closing the door on the sex scenes, have stronger heroines, lose the “bodice ripper” covers.
Hello?
Somebody unplug these folks from the 70’s.
