To conference or not to conference
Feb 11th, 2007 by Sandra
After giving it some serious thought and checking the bank balance for the forty-third time, I’ve decided not to attend RWA this year.
It’s a great conference, it’s in my backyard (only 4 hours to Dallas!), and I’d get to meet with my editor and agent, but it’s simply not in the cards for me this year. Maybe if I were giving a workshop or something, it’d be worth it, but I’m just not seeing it.
Besides, in September I’ll be in Atlanta for the Moonlight and Magnolias conference, where I’ll be giving my Building Emotional Resonance workshop. I’m really looking forward to see Linda Howard, who is the keynote speaker.
Tough decision, but it’s the right one for me this year.
Unless, by some unbelievable chance, Dead Reckoning finals in the Ritas.
Then I’ll go.

And why wouldn’t Dead Reckoning final? It’s a good book!!!!!
It’s just not a Rita-calibre book. The Orchid Hunter was, but not DR. DR doesn’t have the “scope” I’d expect in a Rita-nominated book.
At least in my opinion.
Sandra - sorry, but I totally disagree - DEAD RECKONING is a TOO a RITA caliber book. I make it a point to read the RITA winners every year and absolutely DR is a contender! My son read it in 2 days (which is phenomenal for him) and not only did he enjoy it, he was very impressed with how much he learned about boats. So, I’m betting you go to Dallas
