building emotional resonance
All of us have read books an stories that resonate with us. But what does that mean? How was it achieved? And how do we "press the reader's buttons" in our own books when we don't know what those buttons might be? In the interactive workshop Building Emotional Resonance, Sandra K. Moore and attendees will explore ways of creating emotional connection with the reader through the use of personal experience, deep questioning, and images.
power crunches: using a subplot to tighten a sagging middle
You know the problem. Somewhere between pages 110 and 250, the story fades, the plot loses momentum, and the characters kind of "hang out" waiting for the big climax. But by putting your hero and/or heroine in the crunch of a good subplot, you can raise the emotional stakes, ratchet up the action, produce serious character development, and put your reader on the edge of her seat.
deep pov
Deep POV is every writer's goal. But how can she remove herself from the story enough to allow each character's words to convey his or her mental state, intentions, and actions? This interactive workshop encourages participants to reach beyond "telling" to the much more powerful "showing," in order to give the reader the closest and deepest reading experience.
